Happy Hour Friends

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Happy Hour Friends (“we,” “us”) lists happy hours. You don't need an account to use it, and we collect as little about you as we can. This page explains what we do collect and why.

1. What we collect

When you browse. We use PostHog analytics to understand how the site is used: pages viewed, clicks, device and browser type, referring site, and approximate location derived from your IP address. PostHog also reports errors that happen in your browser so we can fix them. It uses cookies and similar browser storage to do this.

When you submit something(a new venue, a correction, a photo, a closure report, a thumbs-up, or a flag), we store what you send — text, links and any photo — and may record your IP address and a random ID kept in your browser, which we use to limit spam and abuse. Forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that you're not a bot.

Your email addressis collected only if you choose to give it — on a submission or through the contact form. We use it to reply to you or to tell you what happened to your submission. We don't send marketing email, and we don't publish it.

2. How we use it

  • To run, secure and improve the site.
  • To check submissions before they go live. Submissions, including photos, are reviewed by automated tools — including AI services from third-party providers — and sometimes by a person.
  • To prevent spam, abuse, and automated scraping.
  • To reply to you, if you gave us your email.

3. What's public

When a submission is approved, the change it made — and the photo or link you sent as its source — appears on the venue's page and in its public change history. Every submission also has a status page showing how it was checked. None of these show your email, IP address, browser ID, or the free-text note you wrote. Please don't upload photos of other people.

4. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site — hosting (Amazon Web Services), bot protection (Cloudflare), analytics (PostHog), email delivery (Resend), and AI review services — and only as needed for them to do that work. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users.

5. How long we keep it

We keep submissions and their records for as long as the listing they relate to is on the site, because they're the source behind it. Contact messages and abuse logs are kept only as long as we need them. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see below).

6. Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing hello@happyhourfriends.com. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we won't treat you differently for using them. You can block analytics with your browser's privacy settings or an ad blocker; the site works the same without it. We don't currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.

7. Age

This site is about alcohol and is meant for adults of legal drinking age. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as the site changes. We'll change the date at the top when we do.
